Hurricane Laura has made landfall and it is headed northward. In this article, we’ll bring you up to speed on the latest about these storms and what to expect next. According to the National Weather Service, as of 10:40 am EST the storm has weakened but winds are still as high as 100mph or more.

Here’s what we know so far:

  • According to the National Weather Service, Laura is one of the strongest storms to hit Louisiana in decades.
  • At least one death has been recorded as of this writing.
  • Locals probably can expect flash flood warnings due to rather high levels of rain. Some areas could get up to 5-10 inches of rain some could see up to 18 inches of rain.
  • The storm is headed northward as it continues to weaken.
  • There is a possible tornado threat looming. After the devastation in Lake Charles, numerous reports confirm that a tornado might be likely.
  • As of this writing, Laura is a Cat 2 storm according to weather officials.
