There’s uncertainty as to when NYC kids will head back to school

Because let’s face it — we’re pretty sure that families in NYC are certainly ready for the youngsters to take their butts back to school. But this week it emerged that Cuomo and De Blasio are once again at political odds.

On Saturday, De Blasio confirmed that an e-mail among other pieces of correspondence went out to a shit-ton of families in New York claiming that schools would be closed for the remainder of the school year. That, er, now seems to have been a bit presumptive and might not be the case.

By Saturday evening, from Albany Governor Andrew Cuomo has since declared that it is in fact his actual authority to declare whether or not schools in New York City are closed. In fact, Cuomo isn’t even sure that such a closure will happen at all.

Now reports indicate that Cuomo is demanding that such a massive closure be coordinated with surrounding counties and areas (including New Jersey and CT.)

‘It is my legal authority in this situation,’ the governor said in response to a reporter’s question about whether closing schools in New York City fell under his authority over the city’s mayor.

‘It makes no sense for one locality to take an action that’s not coordinated with the others,’ he said.
