NEW YORK — Interesting news just two days after it was widely reported that President Obama was pushing through final legislation before he leaves office. According to a new law announced Wednesday, indoor smoking in all affordable housing; HUD apartment complexes, and similar buildings have been banned.
Officials made the announcement in conjunction with the Center for Disease Control. With the new law, set to fully be implemented in 18 months — indoor smoking; smoking near federally owned public areas, and similar places is prohibited.
In making the legislation officials argue that “Second hand smoke is a real problem. And the home is the first source of such, children and family members should be able to come home peacefully and be healthy without the risk of health problems due to smoking”.
