COVID has arrived in North Korea and the country is scrambling to stop it

That’s because according to numerous reports out this weekend the country is understood to be dramatically behind other global vaccination efforts. North Korea isn’t known to have any of its own vaccines and its behavior on the world stage has made it almost impossible to get test and trace efforts among other things to the nation.

It is unclear how the virus managed to slip through NK ‘s borders considering they’ve been closed for quite a long time since 2020.

On Friday, NK reported 21 more deaths and 174,440 new “fever cases” Friday, according to state media KCNA. It appears they’ve been classified as “a fever” mostly because the country lacks the ability to actually fully test for COVID in so many people. Without proper assistance it is expected that COVID in North Korea will balloon into a humanitarian crisis.

KCNA also notes that government autocrats in the country have not revealed the cause of the outbreak.
