Jussie Smollett is a free man. According to reports, the disgraced American star was released from Cook County Jail after just six days of his 150 day jail sentence on Wednesday night. A judge reportedly ruled that he be released pending appeal amid concerns for his safety and mental health. Critics have pounced on the decision citing that this is a yet another example of a famous and rich person skirting punishment from the law.
Reports indicate that he apparently skipped out on food while in jail and was surviving only on ice water while in there. He was for a few days locked into a bed inside the psych ward amid claims that he was going to harm himself. Smollett has not said much since his release after his lawyers successfully argued that he would’ve completed his sentence long before the appeals process had finished.
