Endurance, Ernest Shackleton ‘s extraordinary ship has been found deep beneath Antarctica in breathtaking discovery

Shipwrecks have always been fascinating because they tend to carry bouts of history along with historical items that the mind can only ponder. This time the shipwreck of Captain Shackleton ‘s Endurance has been found after more than 106 years miles below the icy waters of Antarctica.

Endurance is understood to have sank way back in the early 1900 ‘s though it had disappeared so far into the icy waters mankind couldn’t actually find it until now. According to reports, the wreck was found roughly 2 miles below the surface of Antarctica in some of the coldest and iciest waters on earth.

“This is by far the finest wooden shipwreck I have ever seen. It is upright, well proud of the seabed, intact, and in a brilliant state of preservation,” marine archaeologist Mensun Bound, who served as the expedition’s director of exploration, said in a news release. “You can even see ‘Endurance’ arced across the stern, directly below the taffrail. This is a milestone in polar history.”

The shipwreck is understood to be protected by the Antarctic Treaty which means no government or world powers can lay claim to such nor can any ordinary person. Historians; researchers, and those in which discovered it intend to keep it in its current preservation status and have confirmed nothing was taken from the ship.
