He posed as a Klansman, what he learned undercover is terrifying

In this week’s edition of our “Longread” series we bring you the story of a 50-year-old man known as ” ” who for more than 10 years went undercover infiltrating the likes of the Ku Klux Klan. Beginning in 2007, his story reads like a well written CIA drama except this in fact was someone’s real life.

The story first surfaced after a series of articles were published by the AP revealing news of the story to begin with and his work with the FBI. Joseph Moore the undercover operative first went into the KKK group in northern Florida that year where he would take notes; license plate numbers, and other detailed information pieces about people suspected of being law enforcement officers in the state. According to what he found, he found dozens if not hundreds of reported law enforcement officials across all levels of government in Florida who were knowingly members of the right-wing pro-white terrorist cell most know as the KKK.

Now to the terrifying parts. The story revealed that Moore was able to discover acts of hate crimes; two murder plots, and several other crimes that were attempted to be carried out by the KKK chapter.

In fact, his first assignment as an FBI informant was to infiltrate a group then known as United Northern and Southern Knights of the KKK.

Dating back to 2018, at the height of many of the FBI investigations and the discoveries he helped the FBI make he and his family were given new lives and new names. As the story goes, it is understood that he lives in a Florida suburb.
