Yesterday American President Joe Biden met formally virtually with China ‘s Xi Jinping. As expected, the meeting largely was cordial however not many issues were actually agreed upon. Initially, Xi greeted the American leader as an “old friend” thus that was about as far as friendly fire went. According to the AP, China made it clear that Taiwan eventually will return to the country though Biden made it evident by American standards that they shouldn’t interfere in Taiwan’s daily life.
“Such moves are extremely dangerous, just like playing with fire,” said Xi as quoted by the Xinhua News Agency. “Whoever plays with fire will get burnt.”
Biden also made it clear that China ‘s influence over American business may need to be reigned in because the US has a “need to protect American workers and industries from the PRC’s [People’s Republic of China’s] unfair trade and economic practices.”
