Police deny that DNA backlogs held up ID’ing the body of Jelani Day as questions mount as to who killed the innocent man

The death of Mr. Jelani Day in Peru Illinois has shocked the world. Shocked the world because his death wasn’t of natural causes; the usual ways in which one may die but instead something far more sinister. As we reported yesterday, an autopsy report was revealed that showed that Day ‘s organs were liquified and essentially all removed from his body. It is widely understood that such appears to have taken place prior to his body actually being discovered.

The Pantagraph reports that Illinois State Police are now on the defensive against claims that backlogs held up what should’ve been a swift ID and course of justice for Day. However, it did take more than a month or so for Day ‘s body to formally be identified. It’s worth noting that the gruesome details about his body weren’t actually released entirely until a 2nd autopsy was requested by Day’s surviving family members.

All of this comes amid further concerns that the police have like other cases in the United States largely failed Jelani Day because it has simply taken so long for them to even get this far.
