Prosecutors to drop request for death penalty in the murder of Pop Smoke

Big news in the quest to get justice for the murder of Pop Smoke. According to the YBF, prosecutors in the case are poised to drop their request for the death penalty against at least one of the killers. Per the site, Corey Walker, 20, the only adult killer will not be put to death over his crimes.

The move comes as the death penalty as a whole is being largely and both federally reviewed in the United States. Activists and even government officials are coming to the realization that the death penalty often makes those sanctioning it no different from people who kill each other with a gun.

Other suspects in the case (both minors so we can’t identify them here) are all facing gang and gun charges among other things in connection to the case.
