Culture wars are breaking out over tensions in Iran as prisoner fiasco goes left

A prisoner fiasco and a false media report in Iranian state media has caused quite the stir this weekend. On Sunday, Iranian state media ran reports alleging that the U.S was ready to fork over $7B in withheld Iranian funds in exchange for the release of multiple prisoners (including one notable British-Iranian humanitarian worker accused of high crimes.)

The problem is that the report isn’t true at all. US media reports quickly fired back citing that there is actively no such agreement with Iran to make such a swap and that the U.S was unaware of what they were talking about. The Hill reports that the report appears to be coming from Iran ‘s notorious propaganda arm of the government.

Further in the alleged report it is also noted that detained prisoner Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, would be released if and when Britain pays back reported dues to Iran over military equipment. British official Dominic Raab acknowledged the request and noted that Britain is currently looking at how to do so.
