While you weren’t looking Republicans began staging what looks to be a constitutional convention, here’s what you need to know

A constitutional convention is something that almost nobody from modern day has ever experienced or probably thought much of. It dates back to the founding of the United States in 1787 when the Founding Fathers gathered to declare the information presented within the United States Constitution.

But last year during the elections, while Americans were looking the other way, Republicans quietly began staging what they hope will become an all-out constitutional crisis to rewrite it. Republicans can not get the convention without at least 34 states joining the call — something they do not have. Something other states are desperately trying to prevent from happening.

Rewriting the constitution could by all accounts and likely would have grave consequences for the future of America. It would and is the ultimate achievement of Republicans who desperately want to roll America back to 1 1962 unraveling almost every avenue of progress has ever made. In Virginia, Republicans far-and-wide with almost no Democratic participation gathered in Virginia to discuss their constitutional desires.

Those desires range from abolishing the federal income tax; to limiting the powers of the government including the ability to set regulation, and of course what many believe to be efforts to rollback common civil rights laws. The Huffington Post laid out a fascinating case as to why Republicans are shaping up to be a danger to America and why they should be stopped.
