It’s officially the big day in Washington and it could either go smoothly or end up totally violent. It’s worth noting before we continue that yesterday air traffic controllers in Manhattan found an alleged terror plot against Washington supposedly to take place today. The threat was overheard air-traffic control systems that apparently was meant to enact revenge for the murder of that Iranian general.
Meanwhile back to the certification process. Today the constitutionally mandated electoral college certification process gets underway in about an hour and a half. Members of Congress are reportedly expected to begin convening in about an hour in a socially distanced manner whereas it is also expected that Republicans will not be present in the full sense. More than 140 Republicans have made it clear in recent days that they will object to the certification — although it appears those objections largely will be symbolic.
The New York Times reported last night that Pence through carefully found sources has already acknowledged that he does not have the authority to block the certification. Thus he has no interest in doing such and likely would rather ride off into the sunset.
Trump on the other hand appears to have started his morning in full blown crisis mode as the 11th hour of the final nail in the coffin has arrived.
