Three more mutant strains of COVID-19 have been discovered

Potentially throwing vaccination efforts into disarray considering medical officials from Pfizer and Moderna have both acknowledged they would need more time to ensure their vaccines are appropriate. Appropriate being they may not be suitable for the newer version of the virus as they were designed mostly for the old version of the virus.

According to the World Health Organisation, new strains (in the UK and South Africa both of which are considered to be much more contagious that the original COVID-19) are side-by-side with another strain recently discovered in Nigeria. Researchers and officials reportedly aren’t clear yet as to whether or not the Nigerian strain of the virus is more contagious like others discovered.

Meanwhile in the UK, the Kent mutation that was found is believed to be at least 56% more contagious than the first strain found earlier this year according to a warning from the SAGE committee.

The Nigerian strains were originally found as early as August and October in a village called Osun about 100 miles outside of Lagos. It is unclear as to why Nigerian officials and their health counterparts waited so long to acknowledge the discovery of the strain.
