The United States Geological Service has issued a new piece of information that might strike Californians as odd. According to officials, there is a 1 in 100 chance that a cluster of earthquakes along the fault could likely lead to a massive one spanning hundreds of miles.

Officials say that that likelihood surrounds the possibility of what would then be an 8.2 magnitude earthquake from the Mexican border clear beyond Los Angeles County. Officials apparently found the cluster of smaller earthquakes this week during routine research tests and believe that like usual precautions should be taken in the event “this is the big one.”
