Going to Florida soon? Not so fast, the dengue fever has been found

The list of reasons to evidently and purposefully avoid Florida continues to grow. On Wednesday, it emerged that the 11th case of the mesquite-born dengue fever has been found in the Keys.

The dengue fever typically comes from Aedes aegypti (female.). According to health officials, this same type of mosquito also may carry viruses and illnesses like the yellow fever and the aforementioned Zika virus. The disease is only contractable after one has been bitten by said species.

Officials in the area of the Keys are asking people to get rid of or dispose of entirely areas or things that may be considered hot-beds for the Aedes Aegpyti species to breed.

What is the dengue fever?

The dengue fever is a mosquito-transmitted fever as you probably could’ve guessed. According to health officials — you’d likely know if you have it. The symptoms are pretty obvious and include: fever, possible rash, severe muscle aches, and widespread body pain. As of this writing, most of the cases have been wound in the Key Largo area about 60 miles south of Miami.
