Here are your basic facts about Cinco De Mayo

Because well the internet has proven time and time again that people don’t always know what’s going on —- leaving some pretty funny questions to be asked. Today marks Cinco de Mayo (no that wasn’t a war; nor a famine, nor anything of the kind but we’ll get to that later.)

When is Cinco de Mayo?

Obviously Cinco de Mayo is on Cinco de Mayo which is May 5th every year.

Was it a war? What was it?

Cinco de Mayo was not a far but in fact a celebration of the Mexican army winning the war against the French Empire. The Mexican Army did what they had to do to eventually force the French out of Puebla on 5 May 1862 (the French eventually entirely left the area.). Cinco de Mayo is a direct-result of the Battle for Puebla.

Who can celebrate it?

Cinco De Mayo has largely become a celebration for everybody and an excuse to rouse up a good taco and margarita amongst friends. There isn’t really a set of particulars that would define who can and can’t celebrate said fiesta.
