Food Supply chains in America are shuttering amid the Coronavirus

There might after all be imminent danger posed to America ‘s food supply chain. Factories that produce some of America ‘s meats (including the ever betrothed pork) have seen their employees come down with the Coronavirus by the numbers. As a result, chains like Smithfield ‘s have closed for the foreseeable future.

Smithsfield, which is based in Sioux Falls announced over the weekend that it was closing for the foreseeable future amid a spike of cases within the factory.

“It is impossible to keep our grocery stores stocked if our plants are not running. These facility closures will also have severe, perhaps disastrous, repercussions for many in the supply chain,” Kenneth Sullivan said, per CNN. “The closure of this facility, combined with a growing list of other protein plants that have shuttered across our industry, is pushing our country perilously close to the edge in terms of our meat supply.”
