Exclusive: “He exposed his genitals to me and told me I had nice lips” reports of rape surface in #Morehouse scandal

Last updated on 2019-07-19

The student, identified only as John Doe by this newspaper, told The Daily News last night that DeMarcus Crews made unwanted sexual advances towards him 3 weeks after he started at Morehouse College.   The advances “at first I didn’t realise he was trying to get my attention because on campus that was the last thing I had thought about having just started at the school”.

Editors note: The extent of this students’ story is grave. If you; a student, or someone you know has been a victim of sexual assault; harassment, or rape on Morehouse College’s campus — phone the Atlanta Police Department immediately. You will not be ignored.

We confirmed this students’ enrollment at Morehouse College. [Editors note: A professors name has been removed from this article]. A Snapchat video shown to us on campus confirmed that “John Doe” indeed was/is a student at Morehouse College (subsequently confirmed by his transcript).

But after the 2nd unwanted sexual advance after meeting DeMarcus again “John Doe” realised that DeMarcus was attempting to have sexual intercourse with him on campus.

“My first thought was (“Is this really what goes on at this school? Staff tryna hit on students..smh”).  The student then continues on into the details that we were first nervous about writing in this newspaper because of the fact that Morehouse has covered it up for so long.

“On my 3rd week at school  DeMarcus came to see me again in my dorm.  It wasn’t something I thought about at first, but I did think it was pretty weird when it registered in my head that he had just popped up like that.  He had told me off the rip that he had been trying to hit me up online on Jack’d since he first saw me,  and that it had bothered him that I had continuously left him on read”.

For those that aren’t aware, Jack’d is one of the largest gay-friendly dating apps in America. It is predominately geared towards men of colour.

“He appeared agitated and made it known that he was “discreet” and that was why he came to my dorm rather than wait to see me around campus again. (“How you get down?”) was a phrase he continually used asking me whether or not I top or bottom. I refused to answer the question because sex was not sum that I was looking for”.

(“You know who I am right.  I can make your time at Morehouse a journey or I can make it pretty difficult.  I don’t appreciate the fact that you left me on read multiple times when I was just trying to be nice to you”.)

At this point, “John Doe” says that DeMarcus then exposed his genitals to him inside of his dorm at that moment.  (“Your profile mentioned that you liked stuff like this, men who take initiative”).

In accordance with our policy, we did our best here to limit the number of references to the words rape.  This is no way to deter the fact that this man says he was raped by DeMarcus K. Crews.

DeMarcus continued exposing himself and then took it further. “He continued to take off his clothes and then started stroking himself totally.  I didn’t know what to do. I asked him to stop multiple times cuz I wasn’t down for it but he didn’t listen.  It hit me that either I was gonna find my way out my dorm or this dude was going to sexually assault me”.

“I felt violated even being forced to watch him.   The more he continued he kept telling me that I had nice lips and that he had wanted to have sex with me from the first time he saw me.  He told me that if I went with it that he would do what he had to do to make sure that I got moved to a better dorm but I still didn’t want to.  “He wouldn’t take no for an answer”.

“He proceeded to come closer to me demanding that I remove my shirt and show him my chest.  I refused.  This triggered him to become angry because he was very obviously aroused and I was not entertaining it.”

Editors Note: This is the point that one of our reporters broke down in tears attempting to finish this story and it had to be given to someone else.  For anyone else out there attacked or harassed by Morehouse faculty members and ultimately ignored, your voice will be heard.

“He came close to me full step and proceeded to push me back onto my bed.  I tried to get up at that point because I was intent on leaving and immediately going to the student affairs office.  He pinned me down and proceeded to unzip my jeans.  He proceeded to sexually assault me right there on campus.   He DeMarcus K. Crews pinned me down; raped me, and forcibly finished inside of me even though I begged him to stop.  I pleaded with him to stop touching my dick; I begged him to stop touching my ass. It didn’t work.

That was the very moment that I wanted to die. I had never been penetrated before  and I had just turned 19.   One of the most private things in my life had been taken from me by a man who was supposed to help me on one of the biggest journeys I had always dreamt of (college). I reported it to student affairs and to Maurice and they did nothing. Maurice claimed that an investigation would be launched but nothing happened.  They pulled me into the office 4 days later to tell me that they would offer  therapy services and that if I wanted to handle the situation it would have to privately be taken up with police.   I was scared to go to the police because this was at the same time that rumours were going around campus that two other boys had been sexually harassed already by the same person”.

“John Doe” is currently still a student and confirmed that he has every intention of graduating.  However, thrice removed in the past 1.5 years he admitted in phone calls that he had attempted to take his own life at least twice. (“I didn’t want to live and hated myself for so long”).

We have contacted Maurice about this matter to seek comment but requests for comment appear to have been ignored.
