RKelly1

R&B has long considered R. Kelly one of the greatest musicians of the genre, and in fact, probably one of the best of all time.   However, over the past decade or two,  Kelly has experienced a fall from grace that only the likes of Michael Jackson and others have felt.

Kelly as of 2019 stands accused of 10 counts of aggravated sexual assault (three of them minors). According to. court records picked up out of Chicago,  Kelly, faces up to 70 years in prison. A sentence that if convicted means R. Kelly will spend the rest of his life behind bars for his crimes against women.   In fact, if convicted,  R. Kelly ‘s conviction would be one of the biggest news stories of the past 20 years.

Editors note:  This longread was published by brother-and-sister journalist duo Sultan & Amaral Jade Khane.    Research efforts; obtaining documents, and filling in the blanks with R. Kelly ‘s spotty past were all performed by the pair.   For editorial purposes or to reproduce this article: [email protected]

Kelly ‘s crimes against women began in the late 1990s, but, picked up severely in the early 2000s.    Over the weekend, it became public knowledge just who his latest accusers were.  Among them are some notably brave women who disclosed in court documents sordid details about rapes; sexual assaults, and botched business jobs at the hands of R&B ‘s most notorious serial sexual predator.

Per documents obtained by The Daily News — Kelly ‘s noted sexual assaults began in 2003. At the time he had an apparent hair appointment to get shaved up in Chicago, whereas, instead of greeting his barber like a normal person — he greeted her with his pants down and tried to perform oral sex on her.    When she resisted and refused, he, instead masturbated in front of her and proceeded to bust his wad on her.

And then came the underage minors.   Prosecutors then alleged in the documents that Kelly procured an underage female during his 2008 trial for child pornography. In fact, prosecutors further allege in the documents that Kelly would go on to sexually assault her for several years.

He would choke her; grab her by the hair,  slap her in the face, and spit in her mouth says one portion of the document.

Prosecutors then allege in their writing that Kelly met an unidentified 16-year-old female when she was celebrating her birthday. At the time,  Kelly was apparently in attendance and his assistant tried to pass her his business card — her mother would go on to intervene. But the girl would then allegedly steal the business card from her mothers’ purse and Kelly would then have his way with the young girl.

But the allegations not only grow far more disturbing with that one, they, but also get twice as disturbing with the next.  Perhaps the most harrowing of the allegations is the fact that The Daily News has confirmed the existence of a reported sex-tape featuring R. Kelly and an underage 14-year-old girl (which is in the possession of police in Chicago).  The tape appears to have been filmed sometime shortly after the apparent rape of the 16-year-old birthday girl who has not been named in Kelly’s indictment records.

Kelly ‘s magical rise to the top of R&B

R. Kelly first hit the scene in 1992 with the help of the musical group Public Announcement. But within 3 years, he went solo with his debut album 12 Play.  According to his discography, I Believe I Can Fly, is probably R. Kelly ‘s most famous song. In fact, he would go on to win 3 Grammys’ for the smash-hit single.

Organizations responsible for declaring musical sales note per records that R. Kelly has sold more than 75m records with the help of 12 solo albums.   He has often been referred to as the greatest R&B artist of the 1990 ‘s, and,  one of the best selling musical acts of all time.   His success came with a mark though, a mark, that would go on to see Kelly abuse his immense influence and power to rape and abuse young women for more than two decades.

Where it all started

Kelly was first charged with 12 counts of child pornography in 2003.  But in 2008, Kelly was acquitted on all charges. Since the dawn of the ages, however, Kelly has “categorically denied” the charges.  As of this writing on Sunday, Kelly, remains in Cook County lock-up pending $100,000 bail (a portion of the massive $1m bond required).   He failed to reportedly make the first payment, which, resulted in him going officially behind bars.
