Tumblr’s bizarre “porn ban” is causing out right chaos

Tumblr’s recently announced “porn ban” goes into effect this month, and, days ahead of the ban — things aren’t going so well for the website. The websites’ supposed “algorithm”  has resulted in thousands of blogs “being automatically banned, or, outright flagged” even if they don’t have adult content on such a blog.

(We tested this with a dummy blog. We posted a picture of a dog eating a doughnut, and, well you know where we are going with this..)

In a statement to Buzzfeed….

Filtering this type of content versus say, a political protest with nudity or the statue of David, is not simple at scale,” Tumblr said. “We’re relying on automated tools to identify adult content and humans to help train and keep our systems in check. We know there will be mistakes, but we’ve done our best to create and enforce a policy that acknowledges the breadth of expression we see in the community.”
