The downfall of a once beloved Pennsylvania Pediatrician: Longread

In a shocking turn of events, uh, for literally someone who had been revered as a doctor for many years — a Pennsylvania Pediatrician is behind bars this week. Behind bars, perhaps, for one of the most shocking confessions we’ve seen in the criminal justice system this year alone.

According to reports, Johnstown Pediatrician Johnnie Barto admitted to federal officials in Pennsylvania that he “sexually assaulted at least 31 children, most of them, actually all of them his patients” reads an affadvit obtained from. court documents. Officials. found out that Barto had been using his own credentials a doctor, to, gain access to young and vulnerable children.

Records, per the AP, show that most of his victims were between the ages of 8 and 12. Terrifying to say the least, one, was all but two weeks old according to the Associated Press.

Editors Correction: An initial version of this story stated that Barto had been arrested this week, when in fact, he has been in jail since January. This week he gained one-step-closer to being sentenced for his many crimes.

The admission from Barto, has to say the least, sent shock-waves through the local community and his private practice. We were unable to independently gain comment from his practice, as, phone calls weren’t actually going through earlier this afternoon.
