MEXICO CITY —  The war to retrieve Ethan Couch is on, and, it looks like it’s going to last for some time. According to reports, the deeply troubled 18-year-old “Affluenza Teen” has apparently hired a “hot shot” Mexican lawyer to help him in his quest to remain in Mexico. However, despite such attempts, such wouldn’t actually be possible without an asylum request.

Couch notably won a delay in his deportation late last month after he claimed that his “rights” were violated and his “constitutional” rights weren’t followed during his arrest in Puerto Vallarta.  Experts say that because Couch has won a “stay” in Mexico, a trial is imminent, and he could be in the country for months.

By claiming that Mexican authorities violated Couch’s human rights during his arrest, perhaps, a judge would then be inclined to  reject any further detention on behalf of Couch essentially releasing him into Mexico. Such, unfortunately, would require that Couch be re-arrested on new charges but would be difficult according to Mexican authorities.

Couch’s mother, however, remains in Tarrant County Texas whereas she is being held on $1million bond.   Tonya has been charged with interfering with an apprehension and faces up to 2 to 10 years in prison.
