4 Places to get FREE HIV / STD Tests Done in New York City

It is never a bad thing to know your status,  no matter what way that may mean, and we’re here to help.    In our handy-dandy testing guide, we’ve rounded up 4  absolutely free HIV clinics that offer both HIV/STD testing at free or extremely reduced costs (if you happen to not have insurance. Our next guide will discuss how to get Medicaid/insurance!).

  1.  Department of Mental Health and Hygiene (Harlem)

This center located in upper Harlem (we’ve been asked not to directly share the address, but psst!, Google is your friend)  offers all of the above services.    Clients are discreetly handled; tested,  and provided immediate accurate results.    HIV prevention medications like PEP/PREP is also available here (our next guide will discuss the key differences between the two!).

The wait times can be pretty different sometimes.  So come prepared with a book or some headphones in the event you find yourself here. Walk-ins are also welcome.

2.  Mount Sinai Medical  Center [Any location]

In New York State it is the law that emergency rooms offer HIV tests no matter the person.   You can always get an HIV test done for FREE at any emergency room if you feel like you’ve been exposed to the virus. Also, if you feel like you’ve been exposed ask the emergency room about PEP.

3. GMHC

Standing for Gay Men’s Health Crisis these guys have been around since about the 80’s.   Located in downtown (but are currently moving to a better location)  these guys are prompt; offer testing,   and various other services.

Address: 446 W 33rd St, Manhattan New York.
