Mattel has a new Barbie, and people are NOT happy about it

Mostly because it features none other than Frida Kahlo. Kahlo,  is revered and renowned in Mexico for her distinct appearance and approach to her artistry. She, ehum, actually died in 1959 but for whatever reason Mattel felt the need to resurrect her as a  Barbie  doll.   According to the Los Angeles Times, locals in Mexico City have joined together to demand that Mattel take the Barbie off shelves in definitely — especially considering since descendants of Kahlo have not granted permission for them to do such.

The interesting thing, ehum, is that Mattel appears to intentionally left out some rather important details about Kahlo. For example,   Kahlo was perhaps quite famous for her uni-brow and boils on nearly all of her fingers. But, for whatever reason, her famous mannerisms and quirky beauty perks weren’t shown on the new Barbie.
