According to Germany’s intelligence agency. Per reports, a 9 month intelligence probe found that Chinese intelligence operatives were using fake social media profiles to mimic or find their way to contact senior diplomatic officials across Europe. Reuters found the report, and, it has raised questions about a number of security concerns.
The head of Germany’s BFV agency says that Chinese spies “would offer free trips to the region and meetings with high level officials” in exchange for whatever information they thought the unsuspecting diplomats would offer up.
China has now apparently denied the allegations.
