Officials have confirmed to The Daily News that the much discussed North Dakota pipeline that was due to cross through a river belonging to a Native American tribe, will not proceed.

The Standing Rock tribe first announced last night that the US Army had confirmed to protesters that it would not allow the pipeline to cross through the sacred tribe or its land. But, instead, would find an alternative route to avoid harming drinking water and the tribes land in any way.

“Today, the US Army Corps of Engineers announced that it will not be granting the easement to cross Lake Oahe for the proposed Dakota Access Pipeline,” the tribe’s statement read.

“Instead, the Corps will be undertaking an environmental impact statement to look at possible alternative routes.”
