Harlem losing one of its Starbucks, as neighborhood gripped by soaring homelessness rates

HARLEM —  A neighborhood once dominated by culture;  entertainment, and a warm welcome to its residents has now lost its way to the rise of gentrification.  Million-dollar condos; Bed Bath & Beyond, Victoria’s Secret, all are just a few basic reasons why there are more homeless people in Harlem than ever before.

Now Starbucks is chopping one of its locations often home to dozens of homeless people in the neighborhood every day.   Located off the corner of African Square,   Starbucks, confirmed that this location would be closing but refused to confirm or say why.

But to most residents, it is no secret that the tides are changing.  People are in desperate need of somewhere warm to spend their time; somewhere that often feels like another place, but basically somewhere that they can just mind their business.   But for Starbucks, it appears that their ploy to take down the African Sq Starbucks is all part of the larger neighborhood plan to appease the wealthy moving into Harlem.

In recent weeks, and often by the droves,  wealthy white people are moving into uptown New York.   Armed with Gucci shoes; Prada bags, and other stuff their fellow Harlemites often can’t afford — the ordinary folk is losing their way to people who really don’t care about them.
