Exclusive: “They failed us, they failed our parents” Cristo Rey students in Boston sound the alarm about life at controversial school

Cristo Rey Schools (because there are many of them) have long been the source of controversy. Last year, we began an undercover investigation into the same school in New Jersey. That investigation led us directly to students and their families who were eager to have their stories told, as they sought justice for what most called academic negligence at its finest.

Boston is no different. On Wednesday, Daily News America & Daily News Europe both received scores of e-mails from students and their families alleging significant academic negligence at the hands of the school and particularly academic officials like Rosemary Powers. Powers has already been implicated in an alleged cover-up plot involving a teacher we’ve identified as Paula Valente. Valente is seen in this video angrily berating a student before calling them a disgrace and storming out of the class.

Daily News Europe obtained the following Zoom conference call late last night. The Zoom call confirms some of the allegations made by students that they’re not being given proper instruction; missing important and critical educational time, and mostly being brushed to the side.

Students say that such isn’t the first time and the incidents aren’t isolated. Shortly after 1pm Wednesday, we received more than 19 statements from students and their families and some even from one of their teachers who provided them to us. The statements are equally shocking as they are stunning revelations about a school who appears to have very little if any accountability.

Here are at least two of those statements from students in their own words.
