Scary: A former Met Police officer has been jailed for rape of a colleague and a 16-year-old girl

A stinging rebuke for the Met this week as a judge overseeing the case of Adam Provan, says he in part got away with it because the force had overlooked many of the allegations against him.

According to reports, Provan on Tuesday was hit with jail time for 16 years, followed by eight years on licence, for eight counts of raping two victims between 2003 and 2010. Earlier this year, the former officer was convicted in a sensational case that saw him go down for six counts of rape with an officer (he had a relationship with them between 2003 and 2005) and two counts of raping a 16-year-old girl.

The Guardian has the backstory on Provan’s twisted crimes involving pillows over faces and burning a female officer with a kettle during a campaign of harassment.
