Trump Administration To Cut Billions From Education

Trump's Proposed Cuts to Education

The White House under the Trump administration wants a 12% cut in Educational funding, which translates to roughly $7.1 Billion gone. Poof. Vanish. Education no more.

While congress opposes this budget proposal, the Trump administration surely will find a way to get a measure of their wants fulfilled.

This news is quite troubling, as someone who has been greatly fortunate to attend a college the access to the knowledge I’ve acquired is laying an essential framework for my future.

I imagine countless other students who would strongly oppose any cuts to education, as it is already it’s tough and to add undue stress to the building blocks of success is heartless.

The details on Trumps Administration cut to education proposal includes

-The federal government would stop subsidizing the interest on student loans, for a cut of $1 billion in the next fiscal year.

-Simplifying student loan repayment plans to one option. One repayment plan that caps monthly payments at 12.5 percent of discretionary income.

-The budget would phase out the program known as Public Service Loan Forgiveness.

-$2.3 billion program cut for teacher training and class-size reduction

-$1.2 billion after-school program eliminated

-A $190 million literacy program would also be cut.

The table below illustrates the impact of Trump and DeVos’ proposed cuts to the Title II, Part A program for teachers, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers after-school program, and the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants for all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

Neil Campbell and Lisette Partelow of the Center for American Progress expertly put

“Instead of acknowledging the reality of chronic disinvestment in education, the Trump administration continues to propose cuts to education funding. This year’s budget proposal would eliminate 29 programs and includes cuts totaling $8.5 billion, a 12 percent decrease from the Education Department’s spending levels in fiscal year 2019. Moreover, the administration has again proposed to eliminate the $2.1 billion Title II, Part A (Supporting Effective Instruction State Grants), the program most directly supporting teacher salaries and professional development—cuts that could pay nearly 35,000 teachers’ salaries across the country.”

As my mom would say, this is high-class madness.

Correct me if I am wrong, children are our future right? If so, the tools, instruction, and education America’s children are projected to receive, should the Trump Administration get its way, would put America well behind the global competition.

I have learned that when an individual is not able to get what they want at home they go searching for it somewhere else. Home being America and that something quality education. Though American students, for the large part, may not all migrate to another “home” it can be speculated that this brightest might and where would America be without its brains. Well actually…get it together America.
