Understanding the unruly world of porn payment processors and how they work

Porn platforms exist in much of the modern world and likely won’t die anytime soon. In fact, they exist in sites like Onlyfans; Fan Centreo, Porbhub, Manyvids, AVN Stars, and more. The fairly underground world of payment processors often include words like “high risk.” For example, if a site is deemed high risk by say Visa or Mastercard — they then are subject to far higher fees and far stricter rules.

Allot of sites unless you’re as big as Pornhub aren’t always financially equipped to afford consistently high fees in any manner let alone for its payment processor. For purposes of this article and so people can further understand, we’ll additionally hyperlink the Terms of Service of various processors throughout this guide.

First up, let’s tackle CCBILL. When most think of the online porn world — truthfully most imagine or assume that no kink is off-limits in terms of production. But as you’ll learn here that isn’t actually the reality that webmasters and producers face.

A stark reality that for some could be costly and sometimes even sink their business entirely. CCBILL is one of the world’s most popular payment processors for porn-related stuff on the internet. But even as a porn friendly payment company, they’ve actually got some of the strictest rules on the books (next to only probably Visa and Mastercard.) But truth be told, these processors are only actually enforcing what Visa and Mastercard want it isn’t entirely at the discretion of processors themselves.

Their Terms of Service (see here) lay it out pretty blatantly. References to underage porn; beastility, fisting (usually meant for the BDSM category, but this is actually classified as extreme violence in some cases), and pissing scenes (bodily waste).

For example (Section 4 of their TOS): The posting or display of any image or wording depicting or related to extreme violence, incest, snuff, scat or the elimination of any bodily waste on another person, mutilation, or rape anywhere on the site in a sexual or erotic manner, including the URL and meta tags [are a hard no-go].

Given the world that we live in, one would be wrong to deny that people have some pretty interesting kinks and nobody should be invalidated for them. However, this is where sites like Onlyfans.com and others begin to run into problems with processors. CCBILL lays it out clearly that sites that display content as listed above — are subject to suspension and sometimes even full-blown termination.

In the event a merchant’s account is suspended for unacceptable conduct or suspicion of fraud, all rebilling members may be cancelled and all monies held for a period of six months to one year. In addition, CCBill reserves the right, where feasible, to implement technical mechanisms, which prevent the occurrences listed above. Furthermore, CCBill is under no obligation to notify its merchant of its actions.

CCBill may deactivate CCBill accounts or sub accounts that have not processed any orders within a 90-day period or the CCBill payment page is not viewable from the home URL of the website.

One commonplace no-no we’ve found among virtually all payment processors that handle porn stuff is the fact that if a woman appears in a video and appears to be menstruating — hard pass. While it is unclear as to why a woman’s body (or what may happen to it if you will) are “against the law” per the processors — it appears even things like that are considered “bodily waste.”

That deserved a mention because sites like Onlyfans.com (whom we’ve been told by numerous people) has struggled for a long time to maintain a consistent payment processor. Why? Because they host membership-based profiles and there are millions of them. The sheer volume of content on Onlyfans and the varying types of said content is almost certain to run afoul of processing rules.

The main focus here, Onlyfans, does appear to use CCBILL according to their Terms of Service. Going by their Terms of Service, this makes them bound by the otherwise strict rules in which were laid out by the processor itself.

If you are looking to subscribe to other profiles you will need to add a payment card. When adding a payment card, your card information is stored by a payment processor, which is called Stripe; or if you are subscribing to a profile containing sexually explicit content, your card information is stored by a different payment processor, CCBill or Securion Pay. However, as far as legally possible, OnlyFans reserves the right to change the payment processors it uses at any time and without notice to you. OnlyFans does not store any payment card information.

3.4 If you are looking to earn money from other Users subscribing to your profile, you will need to add a bank account and upload a valid form of ID. You may also need to submit additional legal information, such as a W-9 if you are resident in the United States of America (the exact information required will depend on your country). Your earnings will be paid into your bank account, via one of our payout processors or via direct bank wire. With exception to those Users seeking payment via direct bank wire, OnlyFans does not store any bank account information, which is stored by our third party payout processors.

As we continue to cover porn related topics, we’ll share more friendly guides so people can understand exactly how things work behind the scenes.
