Movie Review: Issa Rae ‘s The Lovebirds

Quarantine as I've mentioned before has introduced me to a ton of content that I otherwise would probably miss. Issa Rae stars in the new caper-comedy The Lovebirds about a couple who inadvertently witnesses a live-action murder while going through the problems the face in their relationship. Bonus: Rae and Nanjiani are a tremendously well paired set of castmembers but couldn't quite bring the story fully together because at times Nanjiani just seemed unbelievably boring. First and foremost, I'd like to note that as usual Issa Rae did well in her role as a pessimistic girlfriend aiming higher for her and the boyfriend she has [ ] but with every relationship comes the equally annoying man that comes with it. But back to the film. Jibran and Lelani would otherwise be con...

Movie Review: In modern America #AmericanSon is a black person ‘s worst nightmare come true

Tonight I had the pleasure of watching Kerry Washington 's Broadway play ("American Son") on Netflix [it was adapted into a film.]   The film surrounds Kendra (Kerry Washington) and Scott Connor (Steve Pasquale) and their interracial mixed family. The film almost instantly begins like an opening scene from pre-civil rights movement movie from the 60's.  Connor 's blatant racism; downright distaste for other black kids, and even his own disenchantment of his own wife's personal struggles as a black woman are without a doubt terrifying.  The film doesn't move from the "Miami Police Department" station where it originally took place. Warning: This film contains serious racial undertones that may upset viewers. The cop in this film is the cop of all cops that nobody ever wants to encounter. ...

Review of FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW

Hobbs & Shaw premiered at the Dolby Theatre on July 13, 2019, and is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on August 2, 2019, in 2D, Dolby Cinema, and IMAX. As the first spinoff of the Fast & Furious franchise, there are many things to be said for this. I would admit it is quite difficult penning pieces that have not yet been seen by the general public. It is at times quite hard to keep quite. Still, as the first of its kind...I would say go see it. Let’s have a chat about it after this weekend. FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW is going to be in theaters across the country tomorrow Friday, August 2, 2019, and I can't wait to review it with you all. My experience with the Fast & Furious franchise is they don't hold back from adrenaline-pump...

Movie Review: Wreck It Ralph 2

Movie: Wreck It Ralph 2 Teen Rating:  PG Overall Rating: 4 Stars   Ralph and his friends are back in all of their magical action.    As crazy;  ridiculous, and as homely as ever -- Ralph leads his friends on another  wild adventure this time through the internet.    Ralph unfortunately finds himself  the reason why Sugar Rush got shut down, which,  led to an unbreakable bond and friendship being further cemented. Vanellope, the all but adorable but equally  rambunctious sidekick,  aids Ralph in his quest to become a better friend.   The movie quickly finds that it has an audience with a number of laughs; a few inappropriate jokes, and of course Ralph's enduring love for Vannellope. As most would probably put it, uh, two video game characters who know nothing but thei...

Movie Review: Paddington 2

Movie Title: Paddington 2 Movie Grade: 3 1/2 Stars Rating:   Paddington 2 is the perfect adorable family movie.   Kid friendly; hilarious,  and warm-feeling laughter.    If you're in the market for a movie fit for kids, and, a perfect family outing to the cinema -- go for it! Paddington 2 returned to the theaters in the 2nd  sequel   last year.    Paddington is back and in detective-mode more than ever before.    On the prowl to solve a clue about a book and his family, Paddington, eventually gets blamed for the theft of a book that he didn't actually steal.   An egotistical narcissitic criminal, who, disguises himself as a performer -- actually is the real culprit. Paddington lives in central London with an adorable, and, rather typical British family.   Unfortunately for Padd...

Movie Review: Halle Berry ‘s realistic (“Kidnap”)

How far would you go to protect your child?   Halle Berry 's maternal revenge strikes an honest chord  in  Kidnap.  A thriller about an abducted son turns deadly in this troublesome drama.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2DP5I5HO_k In August,  Halle Berry 's latest thriller ("Kidnap")  came to fruition and despite troubling reviews from critics who wouldn't know a good movie if it bit them in the ass -- Berry 's stint as a mom hell bent on getting her child back is well worth the watch.    Carla ("Halle Berry") is your average middle-class mom trying to make a living;  spend time with her son, and make things work. Having gone through a split of her own, times, have gotten tough for Carla and Frankie.   As a waitress,  the only real time Carla could ever usually find to spend with...

Movie Review: Lifetime’s Get Out Alive

Anybody who has read The Daily News over the years, knows, that we love Lifetime movies.  This time, we're  rattling on about Get Out Alive -- one of Lifetime's newer releases as of this Spring. The film, perhaps, isn't one of Lifetime's best and has earned a much less stellar review than its fellow counterparts. Get Out Alive Rating: ** Lifetime 's Get Out Alive stars a couple, who alike others, appears to want to be in a happy marriage but ends up getting invited to a couples retreat. The problem?  The couple's retreat is both dangerous and nothing of the couples retreat kind of thing. It actually becomes and quickly  a situation whereas they must defend themselves and fight for their lives. Perhaps, if this reminded you of Paris Hilton in that wax movie from 2006 -- you're not ...
