Germany has detained 25 far-right suspects who allegedly attempted a massive coup

NOTES: Reich Citizens movement is a far-right German political group that aims to as you might’ve guessed advance super far-right agendas by any means necessary. Germany has long considered the group a terrorist organisation.

German officials have announced the mass arrest of more than 25 individuals across more than a dozen of states this week. Officials say that members of a far-right nationalist group Reich Citizens allegedly attempted a massive political coup, but were ultimately foiled when more than 3k officers conducted raids across 130 sites throughout the country.

The group notably rejects Germany’s postwar constitution and often calls for the current government to be overthrown. 22 of those arrested are understood to be German citizens themselves with at least one Russian national among those arrested. All of those arrested were arrested under suspicion of knowingly being a member of a terrorist organization. Along with detentions in Germany they also occurred in the Austrian town of Kitzbuehel and another in the Italian city of Perugia.

According to the Huff Post, prosecutors believe that the group holds similar ideologies to that of the QAnon conspiracy group found in the United States primarily.
