Beyonce bows to pressure from disabled community who say ‘spazz’ doesn’t belong in music over claims it is ableist

Editors Note: In the United Kingdom the word spazz is often associated with people who have things like cerebral palsy and therefore it is considered widely offensive. In the Americas, the word is often used to casually describe ‘letting loose’ or otherwise having ‘fun’ in an often dramatic way. It is by some seen as a cultural difference rather than ill-intentions.

American pop diva Beyonce has bowed to pressure from disability advocates who claim that the word spazz (which is a spinoff of the word spastic) doesn’t belong on her new album because it is ableist.

“So @Beyonce used the word ‘sp – z’ in her new song Heated. Feels like a slap in the face to me, the disabled community…” penned one Twitter user in a now-viral tweet.

Reps for the star confirmed to multiple outlets that the word will be removed and was in no way used in a harmful manner.
