Over the fact that the U.S House Speaker is headed to Taiwan next week for meetings with the country’s government. In recent weeks, China has ramped up its own longstanding efforts to have the so-called ‘Chinese’ territory returned to its alleged owners. Taiwan has and maintains its own independence from China despite the country’s sweeping propaganda machine otherwise.
Chinese officials took to the airwaves on Tuesday with the threat of a response if America were to step too far. What that meant in Chinese military terms is anyone’s guess.
Pelosi ‘s visit would ‘severely undermine China´s sovereignty and territorial integrity, gravely impact the foundation of China-U.S. relations and send a seriously wrong signal to Taiwan independence forces,’ Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijiang said at a daily briefing.
‘If the U.S. were to insist on going down the wrong path, China will take resolute and strong measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity,’ Zhao said.
