UK has canceled first depo flight to Rwanda

The UK ‘s highest court has stopped the first of what was supposed to be several deportation flights of migrants to Rwanda from the country. According to a ruling, the high court ultimately found that by deporting migrants to Rwanda they faced “an untimely; uncertain, and probable chance of harm to themselves or persons.”

The AP reports that Priti Patel is still going to try to force the deportations through legal efforts though it remains unclear if that would be possible. As of this writing, all known deportees didn’t make it on the flight despite the government promising that people would go one way or another. It was supposed to be a deal between Rwanda and the UK in which Rwanda would receive development aid in exchange for taking in the migrants.
