Prime Minister Boris Johnson has survived a vote of confidence

Turns out Prime Minister Boris Johnson has survived a vote of no confidence after all. Huff Post reports that yesterday the embattled UK prime minister survived the vote following months of allegations that he didn’t follow his own COVID rules despite implementing them. Allot of the allegations also had involved numerous senior officials at Downing Street all of which had applied a rules for thee but not for me policy.

Johnson won the backing of 211 out of 359 Conservative lawmakers, more than the simple majority needed to remain in power, but still a significant rebellion of 148 MPs.

Johnson had made the following comments leading up to the vote.

“I will lead you to victory again.”

“Tonight we have a chance to end the media-driven focus on the leadership of the Conservative Party … We have the chance to stop talking about ourselves and start talking exclusively,” he said.
