Long betrothed former NYC Mayor Bill De Blasio is running for Congress. Under a set of new district maps recently drawn after a declaration by a judge — a new district has been born. Under the previous district, it was then represented by Jerry Nadler. Nadler under the newly drawn maps no longer lives in the 10th district and now must run in 12th district which is currently overseen by Rep Carolyn Maloney.
“The polls show people are hurting, they need help, they need help fast, and they need leaders who can actually get them help now and know how to do it,” de Blasio said on Morning Joe, per the New York Times. “I do know how to do it from years of serving the people of this city, so today I am declaring my candidacy for Congress.”
