Vernon Jones: Civil rights protections in America should not apply to gay people because “they can choose to be straight”

Vernon Jones, 61, a self-prescribed Black support of Donald Trump has some words for Black Americans and gay Americans. In an off-the-rails podcast interview, the right-wing supporter made the claim that gay people don’t deserve civil rights because they can simply choose to no longer be gay.

It is a common homophobic ideal that somehow “gay is a choice.” Common sense would say nobody would wake up on a Tuesday and willfully choose (without causing harm to their mental or physical health) to be discriminated against for the rest of their lives.

No One.

Some highlights from the bizarre disgusting interview.

  • ‘Let me tell you, civil rights for blacks and gay rights for gays are two different things,’ Jones, who once called himself the ‘ black Donald Trump ,’ said
  • ‘I don’t know what you are unless you tell me what you are if you’re gay, but when I walk into that room, you can tell that I’m Black,’ he added
  • ‘I’m Black from cradle to grave. Let’s not get that confused, but they can actually change’
