Amid deepening economic issues in Russia the country is struggling to get people and countries to pay for gas in rubles. According to reports, two EU countries are set to be cut off from Russian gas supplies after informing the Kremlin that they would not pay for such in rubles.
Both Poland and Bulgaria are understood to be the two countries. “We have been threatened with the suspension of gas supplies by Gazprom and have taken steps to diversify supplies,” said Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. “We will protect Poland against this Russian measure.”
According to official numbers, Poland gets about 55% of its gas from Russia but for years even before the war has been trying to stop their reliance on the country.
