California will keep RFK ‘s assassin locked up despite efforts to free him

That’s because Governor Gavin Newsom has declared that despite those efforts he is still very much a threat to public safety. According to reports, the Governor made the announcement Thursday amid months of attempts to free the killer by the parole board.

Sirhan Sirhan, the Palestinian refugee who famously assassinated RFK in 1968, has long argued and so have his supporters that he has been rehabilitated in prison.

“After carefully reviewing the case, including records in the California State Archives, I have determined that Sirhan has not developed the accountability and insight required to support his safe release into the community,” Newsom wrote in an opinion piece for the Los Angeles Times.

Sirhan was originally convicted of gunning down RFK in the kitchen pantry of Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on June 5, 1968.
