Disgraced actor Jussie Smollett (who has about a 25/75 chance of recovering from his own hoax) has been found guilty on at least 5 counts. According to US media reports, the jury in his case ultimately did decide that he in fact invented the story of an alleged anti-gay hatecrime way back in 2019.
The charges which could carry up to three years behind bars for the former actor are as follows.
Count 1: Making a false police report, claiming to be the victim of a hate crime, to officer Muhammad Baig.
Count 2: Making a false police report, saying he was the victim of a battery, to Baig.
Count 3: Making a false police report that he was the victim of a hate crime to Detective Kimberly Murray.
Count 4: Making a false police report, saying he was the victim of a battery, to Murray.
Count 5: Making a false police report, saying he was the victim of a battery, to Murray.
It is unclear exactly if Smollett will face any prison time as it does not appear that he has a prior record. His next court date is in January.
