Barbados is finally set to become a Republic this month, here’s what that means right now

The country of Barbados is finally about to become a ‘Democratic Republic.’ According to media reports in the country, the country is set to become the first to abandon the monarchy since 1992 as November comes to a close. The last time a country has done such would’ve been Mauritus that year but hasn’t been since.

Under the leadership of longtime PM Mia Mottley the country is poised to bring in its first female head of state Sandra Mason. Mottley will remain as PM in the new Republic while not much else will change other than losing the monarchy.

The time has come to fully leave our colonial past behind,” Mason said recent “Barbadians want a Barbadian head of state.”
