Previously doled out by the CARES act by the feds, extended unemployment benefits have promptly ended as scheduled for millions across America. The result of that end is as many have predicted already shaping up to be a critical time.

Over the weekend, NY Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed via the Post (it seems) that the state will not cover the benefits now that they’re gone. Hochul maintains that state law bars her from doing such while there is a deficit in the state which is understood to be somewhere north of $11B.

Unemployment stood at 7.6 percent statewide in July and 10.5 percent in New York City, according to the state Department of Labor.
