In New York City electric scooters are legal these days but whether or not they’re safe for everyone is a different story. Earlier this year, the city found itself in the midst of a high profile case involving one Brian Boyd and movie star Lisa Banes. Boyd famously mowed Banes down on the Upper West Side of town before having fled the scene of the crime — for him his actions are now poised to greatly cost him his freedom.
According to prosecutors, the charges against Boyd have now been significantly upgraded. Initially he was only set to be charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report such. The new charges though include second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and failure of a driver to exercise due care. If convicted in Manhattan ‘s Supreme Court he faces upwards of 15 years in prison.
