R Kelly ‘s sensational trial has begun and it is more lurid than anyone could ever have imagined

Disgraced singer R. Kelly is back in the headlines once again but this time it is because his federal trial is formally underway. As the trial of the decade got underway, prosecutors came out the door swinging on day one of the trial painting Kelly as a career pimp and someone who manipulated children and women into doing terrifying things they didn’t want to do themselves.

The high profile trial began today in Brooklyn against the backdrop of very serious claims against him. But the trial of course does come a decade or so later following his acquittal in a child porn trial back in the noughties. According to the latest indictments against him (they seem to often change) he is charged with: racketeering, sexual exploitation of a child, kidnapping, bribery and forced labor between 1994 and 2018.

Kelly’s trial also includes a separate charge that he co-opted the obtainment of a fake ID for pop music icon Aaliyah when she was just 15. That I.D at the time was later used in what would become of the illegal marriage of Aaliyah and R. Kelly while still a minor. That fact was concealed until decades later following the release of Surviving R. Kelly.

In a stunning turn of events, it emerged earlier this month that R. Kelly is also standing trial today for the rape and abuse of a number of young boys. It was not initially known that R. Kelly was abusing boys it was only thought to be young girls and women. Prosecutors are hoping to use that point to further paint Kelly as an evil predator who used his celebrity status; money, and access to lure unsuspecting victims into their own nightmares.

Prosecutors practically made it a bullet point in extra large font today that R. Kelly forced these people to call him “Daddy” like it was some sort of sexual fetish. The atmosphere in and around the Brooklyn federal court house feels like a horror movie as described by one person.

Kelly ‘s attorneys quickly made it a case of alleged groupies showing up to his shows and hotels who were “desperate and dying to be with him.” In case it couldn’t sound anything more like a scene from The Silence of the Lambs — Kelly would invite these women to his inner circle after learning of them thereby inviting them back to his many residences. Prosecutors allege from there that he would demand they not eat or use the bathroom without express consent from Robert.

But it does not stop there. Aside from the women and young girls, Kelly has a history of abusing teenage boys both of whom were between the ages of 16-17 and misled under the false pretenses of help with their music career. Those particular revelations did not come to light until much later well beyond the accusations of abusing young girls and women.

In one instance, prosecutors discovered that Kelly a few years ago met a teenage boy understood to be around 17 in Mcdonald’s in Chicago. At the time, Kelly claimed that he would help the young boy with his aspiring music career thereby inviting him to a party that later led to an invitation back to Kelly ‘s infamous batcave of a studio. As noted by the prosecutors, it is understood that Kelly ‘s studio is the location in which many of the reported sexual assaults including of the boys took place.
