Downing Street has announced that all COVID restrictions will be lifted as mandatory and become optional for all U.K residents. According to the government, the government appears to be unaware of a Delta variant currently gripping the country.

Coronavirus cases have risen a fifth in a straight week to more than 27,000 cases. Johnson also confirmed during the presser that at no time will the U.K permit “COVID certificates” of any kind. Johnson in similar fashion to the American right-wing party made them sound like some sort of draconian effort to impede on the rights of citizens. Masks will become optional; people will have to use common sense, and otherwise it’ll be an every man for himself sort of situation if they can’t get it under control soon.

Some important things to take away from the presser:

  1. UK taxpayers may be on the hook for travelers from red list countries who can’t top up the 1,750 cost for quarantine.

Thousands of people coming into the U.K who may be from red list countries (or having been to one) are required to quarantine upon entry to the country. It is unclear who told the government that would be a good idea but then again Johnson ‘s government has become grossly incompetent at the height of a deadly pandemic.

2. It comes as The Duchess of Cambridge has confirmed she has COVID-19.

The royal family has once again been hit by COVID. According to reports, Her Royal Highness has the virus and has had it since at least last week. The Duchess had the virus shortly after having attended multiple public events.

3. Backlash is strong towards a government who has largely failed its people

Most people are pretty forthright in their opinion that the British government at this point is just confusing people and trying to appease the anti-maskers.

The debate over such a move is currently underway today.
