America is set to investigate itself over reports that America provided funding to China ‘s now infamous Wuhan lab. Funding that is understood to have been used to help China further its (“research”) into bat infused like viruses.
New reports out of America this week paint a picture of an America that is ready to investigate itself but probably won’t actually hold itself accountable. The grants which went to a group called Ecohealth Alliance which has deep pocket connections to the troubled Wuhan institute at the centre of the coronavirus.
Many of the questions into the funding and the group itself surround the idea that China appears to have been using American money to research its aspirations to understand what is called “gain of function” research. Gain of Function research is defined as essentially modifying an existing virus to make it more lethal than actually intended.
‘We share stakeholders’ concerns regarding compliance and oversight of NIH grant funds. We have been monitoring this issue for some time and consider it a high-priority matter that can pose a threat to the integrity of the NIH grant program,’ Tesia Williams, director of communications for the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General, told CNN.
It is the latest twist in the fight to figure out where the Coronavirus actually came from.
