U.S President Joe Biden is poised to attempt to make a big announcement. According to reports, the Biden Administration is poised to announce a directive that would otherwise begin the phasing out of menthol smokes in America. Menthol smokes are widely considered to be among the most addictive smokes in existence.
The Washington Post reports that the move is set to have dramatic implications. As of 2021, more than 85% of Black smokers smoke the flavoured smokes which they say unfairly targets the community. The proposed ban would also include other flavoured smokes and popular cigars but the proposal is expected to receive swift backlash.
But in order for the proposal to even take flight the FDA must issue a proposal themselves and then take public comment. Public comment is expected to be quite strong.
